Abstract

About the Asteroidal Occultation Predictions by IOTA/ES

Mike Kretlow

The software serves for the prediction of occultations by asteroids. The package consists of FORTRAN programs for the calculation of the ephemeris and the search for occultations, as well as a C program (GNU gcc), which creates the ground track maps. The plot program uses the scientific plot library DISLIN (http://www.linmpi.mpg.de/dislin/), which is freely available for gcc and g77 (DOS and Linux). Database is astorb.dat from Lowell Observatory (http://www.lowell.edu) for the orbital elements, the DE403 ephemeris from JPL, as well as the PPM star catalog. As compiler so far Microsoft FORTRAN V5.1 for DOS was used.

In a new release the software was modified for the GNU FORTRAN compiler g77 and runs now both under DOS and under Linux. The Microsoft FORTRAN compiler will not be longer supported. The star catalog compiled by Edwin Goffin replaces the PPM. The predictions created with this program were distributed by IOTA/ES and are also available in the Web (http://astro1.physik.uni-siegen.de/uastro/occult/).
